What Is Web 2.0

Government agencies, with their directories full of rotting, static HTML docs, are ripe to skip right to the front of the class in the move to Web 2.0. Here's a must-read article from Tim O'Reilly. #permalink   Oct 5, 2005 7:13 am

Yes, this is a long article. If you can't read the whole thing, at least look for: 5. Lightweight Programming Models and read that section.

The Best Web Designs

I think “rotting, static HTML docs” is a little harsh. I think good web site can make use of all types of web coding. I work for an on line store that sells area rugs and we are in the process of adding static HTML in place of some dynamically rendered pages as well as web 2.0 content. We are looking at user generated content in the form of a photo design forum and hopefully an interactive room design module that will let you see how rugs will look in your décor with your colors. I think the best web designs can be achieved using all the arrows in the webmasters quiver.

Web 2.0 is about interactive websites with dynamic content and users contributing to each other like ares free music downloads.

Static sites created by one entity are NOT web 2.0.

Web2

Alluding to the version-numbers that commonly designate software upgrades, the phrase "Web 2.0" hints at an improved form of the World Wide Web; advocates suggest that technologies such as weblogs, social bookmarking, wikis, podcasts, RSS feeds (and other forms of many-to-many publishing), social software, Web APIs, Web standards and online Web services imply a significant change in web usage.

If you are multi-lingual, gain traffic from non-English sites now!

If you are looking for articles in Turkish, then Türkçe Bilgi is your one-stop solution. It’s a rare and unique Turkish articles site, where you can republish your articles for free. The site has multiple categories in which articles could be categorized, the more popular ones being travel, health, internet and technology (Programcılık), Turkish cuisine/food, money, women, life stories, women, etc. Check it out!

A decent conversation about Web 2.0

Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-05-03 05:52 PM

It's such a buzz word and people believe it's a colour scheme or a style of templating when infact it's a whole approach to meeting a business requirement (remember that that business may infact be to entertain).

Well done for keeping Tim O'Reilly in the spot light.

Thanks you so much for the article. I would suggest to get the old stock legacy websites a kick, the unfortunate thing is that all these old designs are controlled by now lazy webmasters who themselves need a kick to move. Hoodia Weight Loss

Almost two years

It's interesting to see now with a little perspective how the web has truly become web 2.0 in many ways but we are still talking about it as a revolution. Revolution or not the last couple of years has been good for the internet industry and I hope the next couple of years will be good too.

And about time too! I must say, government websites general equate to boring and outdated in my mind. If you find a page that's been updated in the last year you are doing well!
